This cable is to be used if you have a display with a Mini Displayport/thunderbolt - there are many of Dell's displays that use this, especially the new ones, the ones that end up with 14 or 15 in the model name (2014 and 2015 models). The Mini display port/Thunderbolt cable supports all sizes of monitors, but be sure the cable supports the resolution your monitor uses as this cable does not support 4k resolution. This makes our Sandberg Mini display port cable here. 

Mini display port/Thunderbolt wired usupports sound and high resolution on most monitors, up to 1600p but also 2560x1440, 1920x1200, 1080p etc. Dell's good 27" and 30" displays run with 2560x1440 and 2560x1600 that this cable supports.

Does not support data connections with thunderbolt, as only Apple is the one making a Thunderbolt data cable so far.

This cable fits all the Mac's which have a Mini DisplayPort input, as well as other computer brands that have the same connector.
