The adapter is made for you who have some old equipment but have bought a new Mac, like one of the laptops that only have USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 connectors. 

This adapter is the same with the one Apple released along with their Macbook in 2015. 

It works with any Mac's that have USB-C port or Thunderbolt 3 port, it's Macbook Pro's from 2016 onwards, Macbooks from 2015 onwards, iMacs from 2017 onwards etc. 

The adapter has 3 connectors, it's the ones you use the most when you have a Mac, I dare guess, since it's HDMI to send video to a TV or an external monitor, USB 3.0 to connect a hard drive, mouse/keyboard or anything else with the old USB connector also a USB-C port for charging your Mac. 

The USB-C port and Thunderbolt 3 port have the same shape and thunderbolt 3 can also do everything the same as USB-C can, it doesn't work vice versa, so accessories with a thunderbolt 3 port don't work for a Mac that only has USB-C. Only Apple's Macbook 12" has only USB-C and doesn't have Thunderbolt 3 built into the connector. 

The adapter is made of hard plastic and has a soft plastic cable, it is made to be used daily so it can hold a little of each. 

The USB port is a USB 3.0 port which can transfer up to 5gbps, it also works with USB 2 and USB 1. 

The HDMI port is an HDMI 1.4 port with up to 4k at 30Hz, for example it can also provide 1440p at 60Hz.
