Mini DVI adapters and connectors

Mini DVI is the old Mac connector that almost all mac computers used before the Mini Displayport was widely used. Mini DVI is a minor form of the still very popular DVI port, this is still used for most external displays, despite the fact that the Mini DVI is not being used at all in newer Mac computer or for Mac accessories. From 2006 to 2008, many Mac computers had the small video connector, only the smaller computers like the plastic macbook, Mac mini and iMac that got mini DVI, both mac pro and macbook pro both had the big DVI connector - as it is more widely used and supports larger Solutions.

Mac mini had long Mini DVI, even if it got a Mini Display port on top, probably because Apple wanted to allow people to reuse their old Mini DVI adapters, and the mac mini would still have 2 connectors.

Mini DVI does not support sound, as DVI also does not support audio. If you need audio, you need to buy a Mini Jack connector too, which you put in the audio output on your mac and in the Mini jack sound input on your TV.

Mini DVI is a digital only connection, ie it cannot send analog connections.

Mini DVI supports resolutions up to 1920x1200 at 60 frames per second, the equivalent of a 24" mac screen or any HD or full HD television.

The Micro DVI was an adapter that was only used on a Mac, ever, it was the first Macbook air since the Mini DVI was way too big to fit in the computer. Mini DVI and Micro DVI do not fit together in any way.

You walked away from the Mini DVI because you found a better plug, Mini Display Port takes up just as little sim Micro DVI, so it could be on Macbook air but supported both multiple monitors on the same connector, higher resolution than 30" and audio in a small package.
